Sultanpur Lodhi

Sultanpur Lodhi · India · Punjab life & Kartarpur

HS Historically Supported

Strong historical evidence or substantial scholarly support that Guru Nanak Dev Ji was associated with this place.

Story

Sultanpur Lodhi is strongly associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s adult life before the travels: employment in the local administration, family life, and the beginning of his public teaching. Historians generally accept a Sultanpur period even when they debate later itineraries.

The Sakhi

According to Sikh tradition, Guru Nanak Dev Ji disappeared in the Bein river and returned with the proclamation “Na koi Hindu, na koi Musalman” — not as a slogan against communities, but as a teaching of one humanity before God. Treat the wording as traditional memory.

Teaching

The Sultanpur tradition emphasises honest work, remembrance of Naam, and the emptiness of communal pride.
